Founded in 1991, The Massapequa Challenger Baseball program is highly regarded Island-wide. Our Spring and Fall programs provide special needs children and young adults an opportunity to enjoy the full benefits of Little League baseball at a level structured to their abilities All home games are played at John J. Burns Town Park in Massapequa on an artificial surface and in an enjoyable and safe environment. We allow our players to be part of a team to help develop their social skills and build self-esteem.
Most fields have painted bases providing a smooth surface which is ideal for children in wheelchairs, walkers and any other assistive device. We have Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) at all our fields, with the vast majority of our coaches regularly trained in AED and CPR.
We play at three different levels of competition, all according to the players abilities. At our least competitive level, each player is assigned a “Buddy” to assist them as they “run” the bases, catch, throw, etc. And although the players benefit from their assistance, our Buddies are also winners as the enthusiasm and spirit of the players is contagious! At the highest level our program competes against teams from other communities on Long Island using modified baseball rules.
We have been featured on News 12, Massapequa Patch.com and enjoy continuous support from The Town of Oyster Bay, the Massapequa Kiwanis Organization and many other local businesses and benevolent groups. Come watch us play in the spring and fall, Sundays at 3pm.
